Determining the Cause

Chief Complaint: Heartburn

a. History: Regurgitation

b. Further History: Duration of GERD of at least 5 to 10 years

c. Upper Endoscopy: Esophagitis

●Hiatal hernia

●Obesity

●Nocturnal reflux

●Tobacco use (past or current)

●First-degree relative with Barrett's esophagus and/or adenocarcinoma



Differential Diagnosis

Gastroesophageal Reflux
